How to plan an in-store promotion that sells

An in-store promotion plays out in a few square metres, with very little time per shopper, so much of the result is decided before the first day.

Choose the right stores and hours

Look at which stores your audience visits, and when. A Saturday morning in a hypermarket is nothing like a Tuesday afternoon in a neighbourhood supermarket. Concentrating hours where the shoppers are usually pays off more than covering lots of hours in an empty store.

Permissions and space in store

Every chain and every store has its own rules: where the stand can go, whether you can offer tastings and what paperwork they ask of the company supplying the staff. Ask early. A10 is an approved supplier to chains such as El Corte Inglés, Carrefour, Alcampo, MediaMarkt and Makro, and we prepare whatever coordination paperwork each store requires.

What the promoter needs to know

The product, what sets it apart, how the promotion works and the objections they will hear. Also what to do if the product runs out or materials are missing, and who to call if the store manager asks them to move.

Materials and product

Decide who brings the materials, where they are stored between shifts and what happens if they fail to arrive one day. If the promotion runs over several weekends, agree storage space with each store in advance.

How you will know it happened

Agree beforehand what you want to receive: hours worked, photos of the point of sale, samples handed out or sales. At A10 every promoter clocks in on their phone from the store and the app checks their location, so you know who was there and for how long.

If you are planning an in-store campaign, tell us the stores, the dates and what you want to achieve.
